Overseas Exchange Visit (Hong Kong) - Nov 26 - Dec 2

Two Secondary 3 Level cadets from NCDCC will be selected to participate in this trip to Hong Kong. Nomination would be preceded with a short interview to allow the maximum benefits from the exchange with the Hong Kong Cadets. The interview will be early October. Please note that the interview would be scheduled lasting approximately 15 mins each.

Cadets who are sent on the trip would be expected to co-pay the amount and the rest subsidised by the Ministry of Education. This amount would be made known to the cadets during the interview. Cadets would also be expected to prepare a presentation after the trip for their schools to allow a transference of knowledge and sharing of experience to their fellow cadets

Closing date : 29 September 2010

Please look for me if you are interested. Take note that the cadet will be representing our school and the selection will be based on the cadet's ability to share their experience and knowledge after the trip.

All participants are required to wear Field Dress (No. 4), with beret and badges. The uniform must be properly ironed and starched. No highlighting of hair is allowed. Boots are to be kept clean and properly maintained. For males, hair should be of the natural colour and kept short, not touching the ears or shirt collar. For females, the hair is to be tied neatly.

Course Registration Form must be submitted together with a copy of the Birth Certificate.

A Medical Checkup must be scheduled by YOU with a General Practitioner (GP) who is to complete Part 4 and 5 of the form.

Aloysius: Checkup to be done by 12 Aug.
Sofia and Istiana: Checkup to be done AFTER 19 Aug and BEFORE 26 Aug. (Note: Please do not do the checkup too early)

Please ensure you have a tetanus immunisation jab, and the doctor must indicate FIT or UNFIT on the form. Please also bring along Page 8 of the Course Registration Kit for the doctor.

Security Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) Programme 2010 - Optional

1. The SAFE Programme is a Home Team (HT) initiative that seeks to find ideas and innovations to meet Singapore's safety and security challenges. Through this programme, students can research and discover ideas, innovations and solutions for Singapore's safety and securit challenges.

2. For this programme, cadets can work in groups to tackle challenges in the following areas:

Personal Security

Community Security

Social Security

Physical Security

Cadets may submit a brief proposal on the challenge they choose to work on via http://www.safe.sg.

3. The highlights of the SAFE Programme include:

Privileged access to relevant HT facilities, relevant information and Resource Person within the Home Team to provide guidance and assistance

Provision of seed money up to $2500 (reimbursement basis) to develop ideas

Exhibition of short-listed projects

Further development for selected projects

Prizes of up to $1000. Short-listed project teams will showcase their projects in a presentation cum poster exhibition in Oct 2010.

Visit to Crime Prevention Exhibition Centre - Woodlands Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC)

On the 16 Apr 2010 (Friday), we will be going down to Woodlands NPC for a 45-mins session on crime prevention. This is for your Crime Prevention Proficiency Badge. This is also one of the criteria if you want to obtain your Home Front Security Badge.

The session will incorporate video screening on crime prevention as well as presentation of sharing of crime prevention technique.

We should be back in school by 4.30pm.

Once we have returned from the NPC, you will need to clear a theory test. The material is already in the Litespeed workbin.

Details of the Theory Test:

30 MCQ (2 marks each = 60 marks)
20 True/False Qns (1 mark each = 20 marks)
5 Structured Qns (4 marks each = 20 marks)
Total: 100 marks.

Please note that uniform sizing will be carried out next Wednesday (31/03/10) from 330 to 530pm. Cadets are to pass the NCDCC Sizing Form to me by Friday. Cadets who do not know their sizes and wish to try on their uniform on the day itself, can do so instead of passing me the forms.

There will be 1 in March, 1 in June. 4 Cadets will be sent for each course. Details for the March Course are as follows:

Date: 15 – 19 March 2010 (Monday to Friday)

Time: 0745 hours to 1800 hours

Venue: Home Team Academy (HTA)

Please note that there will be a night lesson for cadets on 16th March 2010 up till 2100 hours. Teabreaks and lunch will be provided throughout the course.

Litespeed and Cadets to help out Sec 1s and 2s

Dear Cadets,

Please note that a workbin has been created for Sec 3 NCDCC cadets.

The workbin will contain lecture slides for Sec 3s and also lecture slides for Sec 1 and 2.

The reason for having Sec 1 and 2 lecture slides in the workbin is because you will need to revise the information you learnt. For this year, the Sec 3s will be utilised in helping/teaching/guiding the Sec 1s and 2s for various lessons, for example, 1st Aid, Fire Safety, CPR, Campcraft etc...

The 1st session is "Uniform Manners" for the Sec 1s on 19th Feb. I will need at least 3 cadets to teach them about this. The slides are uploaded to the workbin.

I would prefer if Sec 3 cadets approach me personally if they wish to help out with the following lessons:

Tree Top Walk

Yesterday's tree top walk was a great success. Attendance was very good, especially from the Sec 2s. In addition to that, every one of the 23 cadets managed to complete the whole route, in an amazing time of about 2hrs and 10 mins!! Thank you to the Sec 3s for helping out.

Overseas Exchange Program to Malaysia

Activity: NCDCC trip to Malacca Civil Defence Force

Purpose: Engage younger cadets to have interaction with our regional partners. It is also in alignment with Ministry of Education's direction to heightened the awareness of Singapore as a global village in the Internationalising Singapore initiative.

Details: 1 Secondary 2 Level cadet to participate in this trip to Malaysia, the State of Malacca. Nomination would be preceded with a short interview and preparatory training (if necessary) to allow the maximum benefits from the exchange with the Malaysian Cadets.

Cadets who are sent on the trip would be expected to co-pay the amount and the rest subsidised by the Ministry of Education.The amount is not expected to be more then SGD$ 150 / = and this covers transportation, board and lodging and all activities planned by NCDCC HQ. It does not cover spending money on personal items like gifts and souvenirs etc as this is purely on own estimated expenditure

This amount would be made known to the cadets during the interview/briefing. Cadets would also be expected to prepare a presentation after the trip for their schools to allow a transference of knowledge and sharing of experience to their fellow cadets within the Corps and as such

NCDCC Service Day

Dear Sec 2 Cadets,

This Saturday is NCDCC Service Day!!! And we are involved!!

So what is Service Day? The purpose of Service Day is to help raise awareness of fire safety issues and emergency preparedness in the neighbourhood . Please note that this is a compulsory event, whereby the attendance of all the Sec 2 cadets will count towards our UOPA points for the Unit Overall Proficiency Award (UOPA), in which we managed to get Silver last year.

So, unless you have valid reasons, please do not excuse yourself from this event. In order to ensure you get a good rest before this, Friday's training will be cancelled for Sec2 cadets.

Basically, what you have to do on that day, is to:

go to each household in the neighbourhood
greet the resident,
talk about fire safety (using information card and pamphlet)
conduct a survey

Obviously, we will not be asking you to do this for the whole of Woodlands. Our school is allocated 4 blocks togther with other neighbourhood schools. Details as follows:

Blks 786B to E
Bukit View Secondary, Boon Lay Secondary, Evergreen Secondary, Yuhua Secondary

This is the rough timeline for that day.

0900 – 1100 Cadets perform Service Day at designated Blocks
1100 – 1200 Rest ; Makan followed by Debrief

So, this Saturday, let's all work together to raise the community awareness about fire safety!!

Dear All,

This is with regards to the NCDCC quiz, in addition to what Sofia has already said.

Please NOTE that the attire for Sec 2s is Full-Uniform with BERETS, NOT jockey caps. This clarification is needed because the initial instruction was actually Jockey Caps.

Because of the NCDCC quiz, there will not be training in school, instead, we will travel down to HTA to lend our support to our cadets, Sofia, Aloysius and Dean.

Even though this is the first time our Unit is in the finals, I personnally, strongly believe that we stand an excellent chance to come out on top.

And our presence there, will definitely help them to do better in the finals!!

So, I expect Full attendance on Friday.

today, sec 1s finished their bronze total defence, i think.
sec 2s did silver footdrill.
sec 3s helped withe the sec 1s and 2s.

sec 2's attendence was bad uhhs.
6 out of 21? Whoa.
but we all passed our silver footdrill except kia seng.
at least he tried seyy. *claps for kia seng*
so, let's try to increase the number of attendance okay, sec 2s?

then got an AFI came to school to check our trainings.
he was super cool uhhs.
i think he went with the sec 1s first at the classroom
then he went down to talk with the sec 2s.
he asked some questions, then got a lot of akward silences.
haha, i also dont know what to say to him. ((:

haha, i love the 'wet-ourselves' activity.
then with the sound effect of the push-ups

sorry for not posting this earlier.

the sec 2s did silver footdrill.
sec 1s, i don't know what you were doing.
but im sure it was something fun. :)))
after all the test, training was quite fun.
espescially during PT.
and during the pouring-ourselves-with-water 'activity'.
though some of us did not do quite as expected,
we still had fun and learnt a very valuable lesson.
which is, there is no 'I' in a team.
we need each other to survive or conquer the problem
if any one of us falis, everybody fails.
the strength of group is the same as the strength of the weakest member.
i hope we can learn from our mistakes during the last training
and improve ourselves to be stonger and closer.

CAN WE DO IT? YES, WE CAN!

Unit Blog

Hello guys,

It has been a long time since I posted on this blog... And I can see that you guys are having some issues... I will not say it is a totally bad thing, there is good to it too... You guys are trying sort out your differences and I hope you will be closer to each other... However, being a frequent reader of this blog, I find that the tagboard is more of a battlefield than a "Hi's and Bye's" section... So I hope this entry will clear a few things up...

Firstly, when this blog was set up a few years ago, it was aimed to be a tool to improve communication within the Unit... It is for cadets and officers to put up notices, announcements and also acts as a stage for cadets to share their experience from courses/activities with the rest of the Unit... I find that being informal is fine in blogging as long as we set a limit for ourselves and not go overboard... So far, I find the posts acceptable and is an interesting read at times...

The second thing I would like to bring up is the issue of discipline and how we portray ourselves to the rest of the world... This blog is accessible to others because it is a public blog... Using vulgarities, be it censored or uncensored, it unacceptable... I may not be your CLT but I am still an officer of NCDCC and I will not allow such behaviour from ANY cadet... Should I see any re-occurrence of such behaviour, I will personally call up your officer and make an official complain against you... And all of you should know that I dare do whatever I say so do not try me...

Thirdly, regarding the Unit email... I understand that there has been issues regarding where the comments are directed to and as to how to contact EVGSS NCDCC should anyone need to... The emails should not be directed to any personal email of a cadet... It should be directed to an email that all blog members and officers should have the password to... The reason behind this is simple... This is a Unit blog... The officers should have access to all information regarding the Unit and that includes it's blog... Should any serious issue be brought up by a reader, the officers should be aware of it... For this reason, all emails in the new email address may be read but should not be deleted so that if any serious case comes up, it will be easier for the officers to gather the facts and arguments... I have created a new email, which you can now find at the contact us section and the password is the same as the blog's... However, do take note that the email used for logging into this blog is still the same...

Lastly, regarding the blog skins... If you guys want a nice blog skin, why not all of you go and find them, decide on one, then apply it to the blog... Is that not a better solution???

Inter-unit Quiz

CCAs are suspended for this week.( 31st July)

Despite that, I have a piece of good news to share.

Our Sec 2 NCDCC cadets (Dean, Sofia and Aloysius ) have done our school proud as we managed to get into the finals of the annual inter-unit Quiz for the first time this year. (*applause applause)

This inter-unit quiz is 1 of the 2 national level competitions that our HQ organized each year. In addition to that, only 4 teams are in the finals. That would mean that we are one of the top 4 teams in Singapore. (*applause applause again!!)

As a result of that, our school is allowed to send a total of 30 cadets(instead of 10 for the others), together with teacher-officers, to watch the finals. Our principal, Mr Chan is also invited for the finals.

Due to the protesting of the general public, I have changed the blogskin. Look at the sidebar. I have added some new items and text to it. SMRT CEPP Practical session

Attention Cadets!

Remember the other time when we took a bus to SMRT HQ for our SMRT theory. This time round, the practical sessions are here!!

The lectures for the SMRT theory might be a bit dry and dull.

But I heard that the practical sessions are quite fun where we get to travel from AMK MRT station to Bishan Depot through a route that normal citizens can't take.(And I am not talking about flying in the sky....)

Timing: 1430 - 1630 hrs

Dear Sec 2s,

A few updates on NCDCC events.

GOH contingent: 23rd May, report at 945am. Attire is already announced.

Student helper for ROAD RUN: the 9 students are to put the consent forms in my pigeon hole by Monday, 25th May. My pigeon hole number is 50! My full name is Mr Su Weilun!!! Please remember that. Student helpers will be required to help out for the trial run on 27th May Wed also, from 8am to 10am.

3th June: SANA course is definitely postponed because of clash of date with PTM. Please pass the message to your friends.

10th June: ATC. Report in School at 645am. A bus will bring us there. Please bring along your medication if you need any. Bring along your Ez-link card as it might be needed. The camp will end at 1pm on 11th June. I will try to arrange for a bus to bring you back to Woodlands, as most of you will be too tired by then, including me.

The following students are to pass me the consent form by Monday:

If you put it in the wrong pigeon hole, its your duty to retrieve it and pass it to me.

SANA COURSE

Hi Sec 2 Cadets,

Hope you have done well for your MYE so far....

Anyway, for those of you who miss going to training on Fridays, we are going for a SANA course in June. This course is compulsory for all Sec 2 Cadets.

Details as follows:

Date: 3rd June 2009 (Wed)
Time: From 0815 hrs - 1730 hrs (Report to School at 0715)
Attire: No. 4 Uniform, Jocket cap.
Venue: SANA, Sengkang Community Hub
Purpose: To mobilise the cadets againt drug abuse and create a drug-free Singapore.

More information:

SANA stands for Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association.

Programme of the day includes Role Playing (2 Hours) and Tug-of-War challenge (45mins). For those of you who are only interested in food, lunch is also provided. : )

Transport will be provided both ways.
